UBS Center Newsletter July 2018

2 Dear reader, With the summer holidays at our doorstep, it is time to wrap up the successful and busy spring semester at the UBS Center. On the dialogue and events side, it was a great privilege to host behavioral economist Dan Ariely (Duke University) at a public lecture in January. He captivated the audience with his re- search findings and delved into the illogical world of personal finance, elaborating on common misconceptions of money. We also look back on another successful Wirtschaftspodium, which tackled the question whether Swiss finance has a future. William N. Goetzmann (Yale University) took the audience on a journey through 4,000 years of fintech. UBS Group CEO Sergio P. Ermotti argued in his keynote that there has to be a balance between innovation and regulation if Switzerland is to continue its success story. On the research side, it is our great pleasure to unveil our new publication series titled “UBS Center Policy Briefs.” To get some insights, we sat down with editor-in-chief Florian Scheuer. We also highlight the future of economic research with selected projects from our senior scholarship holders. Last but not least, we are excited to introduce Ladina Jenal as the new Chief Operating Officer of the UBS Center. Ladina started in April and we welcome her on board. We are sorry to lose Roman Studer, the Center’s first COO, who was instru- mental in kickstarting our various programs and initiatives. We wish you an inspiring read and look forward to welcoming you at one of our upcoming events. Ernst Fehr Joachim Voth Director Scientific Director
